Hello all and welcome! My name is Mikayla and I am a junior at
Kutztown University, majoring in English with cultural media studies with a
minor in philosophy. My goals, for the
near future, are to internship at a local advertising firm near my hometown in
York County. Even though I grew up in
York, Pennsylvania, my heart will always live in Pittsburgh (where I was born). In my free time I dance for the Performing
Dance Portmanteau club, here at KU. In
addition to dancing, I enjoy other sports such as running and swimming. As well as being sporty, I also enjoy
watching sports. With football ranking
number one as my favorite sport, the Pittsburgh Steelers are my preferred team. Another favorite hobby of mine is reading. I enjoy reading mystery, and romance novels.
As a philosophy minor, Heraclitus’ idea of eternal change in
life has recently been brought to my attention.
He once noted, “You never step into the same river twice.” After reading my professor’s blog on the
subject, I found it rather interesting. He
talks about the eternal change in technological advances, and the absurdity of
it all. I, too, agree with my
professor’s ideas. As a reserved
individual, I find it difficult to interact with others and make friends. Now with everybody on cell phones, not only
talking on them but also playing games and being on social media, I find it
even more difficult to engage myself with others. As my professor wrote on his blog, “may we
find the sublime through all the noise, resurrect the ghosts of critical
thinking.” Hopefully one day we can resurrect
the lost art of human interaction.
